Infants

Our department consists of 4 classes: Seagulls, Penguins, Wrens and Skylarks - for pupils ranging from 4 - 8 years of age.

When pupils move into infants they are stepping into a new and exciting phase of their educational career.

For the first time they will be attending school full-time, and will meet lots of new experiences and challenges. Building on the skills pupils have already gained in the Nursery, we are committed to seeing pupils learn and make progress towards reaching their full potential in all areas of the curriculum, but particularly in their levels of independence and personal autonomy.

We believe learning should be fun, and endeavour to provide a broad and balanced range of activities and experiences, both in school and within the wider community. Making full use of all the excellent resources we have in school, we teach within our own class groups, but also enjoy regular department activities. Activities to which parents can be invited are regularly planned, as we want parents to feel fully involved in their child's learning.

We have close links with several mainstream schools, and enjoy integrated activities with them. A local secondary school also supports our department and regularly plans special events for the pupils - e.g. summer picnics, Christmas party, etc. We are a busy, hard working, but fun-loving department, and enjoy seeing our pupils learn and grow before handing them onto our colleagues in the Junior department.
