The school aims to support every pupil to reach their potential. Within the school’s curriculum, communication is identified as one of the essential skills for learning and life. Staff are highly trained to teach and support pupils with a range of complex communication needs. At Glyne Gap we promote a total communication approach, using a range of communication systems to support each pupil’s individual needs.

The school has a Communication Team who work across the school in partnership with teachers and class teams. The team comprises of Specialist Teachers, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Therapy Assistants and Specialist Teaching Assistants. Team members are employed by the school or the Children’s Integrated Therapy and Equipment Service (CITES).
Most pupils’ communication needs are met by class teams and the school based team (see below) and pupils make good to outstanding progress without therapy intervention. However, if a pupil requires additional support in a specific area such as dysphagia (eating, drinking and swallowing) or an aspect of their speech development, the school and parents/carers can refer pupils to the CITES Service (See the CITES Team below). Our therapy colleagues also work with pupils in school who have provision outlined in their EHC Plan.
